Online Safety
Navigating the Digital World Together: Our Commitment to Online Safety
The internet is a wonderful and essential part of modern life for our children. From researching homework and connecting with friends to watching videos, playing creative games, and even learning new dance moves, the online world offers endless opportunities for learning and fun! However, as technology constantly evolves, it is crucial we are all aware of the potential risks and dangers that can impact our children's safety and well-being.
At Mappleborough Green Primary, we recognise that online safety is an integral and vital part of safeguarding our children.
Staying Safe in School
We have extensive security measures in place within the school walls, which are continuously monitored both internally and externally, to help protect our pupils from potential dangers or unsuitable material. Any online safety incidents are recorded, managed promptly, and used as learning opportunities.
Our Online Safety Curriculum
Rather than isolated lessons, online safety is embedded throughout the year following the latest Education in a Digital World framework. This ensures children receive age-appropriate, consistent guidance on eight critical strands of digital life:
- Identity & Relationships: Managing self-image, building respectful online connections, and understanding digital consent.
- Safety & Security: Protecting privacy, recognizing online threats, and managing a digital footprint.
- Information Literacy: Critically evaluating online content to identify "fake news" and understanding copyright.
- Wellbeing: Balancing screen time and understanding technology’s impact on mental health.
Have concerns as a parent?
We encourage an "open door" approach to digital safety. For further guidance or to build your own skills, we recommend the following resources:
- The National College: Access free courses designed to help parents have informed, age-appropriate discussions with their children. https://nationalcollege.com/parents
- Thinkuknow: Provides expert advice from the National Crime Agency for families and children of all ages.
