School Council

Welcome to Our School Council!

What is a School Council?

A school council is a group of elected children that represent the views of the children in the school. We meet regularly and have class councils to feed back. This helps ensure all our children have a voice in how the school develops and works for all of us.  The School Council will meet to discuss and sort out any issues, for example school lunches or play times. They also discuss ideas for fundraising and implement action plans. Please speak to our School Councillors if you wish to put forward any ideas for us to discuss at our School Council meetings.

What are the aims of The School Council?

To encourage children to be actively involved with the school

To encourage children to suggest improvements

To make sure our school is a safe and happy place for children

To help children and staff collaborate within school.

School Council: Keeping Safe at Mappleborough Green

Our School Council has been very busy leading a vital new initiative: Keeping Safe in Mappleborough Green. Following their recent "How do you feel safe in school?" survey, the councillors have been working hard to go through your feedback and findings.
This half term the School Council supported Mrs Groom in a special whole-school assembly. They explained the many ways our school works every day to keep everyone safe and happy.
Introducing the ‘Ask-It Basket’
As part of this work, we are excited to introduce the Ask-It Basket. This is a simple, private way for any child to reach out to a member of staff if they are experiencing their ‘Early Warning Signs’—those feelings in our bodies that tell us something might not be right.
Where can you find them?
  • There is an Ask-It Basket in every classroom.
  • There is 1 in Miss Ricketts' Office.
  • There is 1 outside Mr Finch’s Office.
How does it work?
If you have a worry, just fill in a slip and pop it into a basket. An adult will then come and find you for a quiet chat. The best part? You choose which basket to use based on who you would like to talk to.
Remember our two golden rules:
  1. We all have the right to feel safe all the time.
  2. We can talk with someone about anything, even if it feels awful or small.
