Art and Design and Technology
Where Creativity Begins...
Our dynamic art curriculum is designed to ignite a passion for creativity and self-expression in every pupil. Across their primary years, children build systematically on fundamental skills in drawing, painting, sculpture, and various other techniques, using a wide range of materials and tools to effectively express their ideas. In the upper school, the use of personal sketchbooks empowers pupils to record observations, develop ideas, and reflect on their progress, fostering a valuable sense of ownership and self-assessment. Integral to this journey is the study of diverse artists, craftspeople, and designers, which not only inspires technical ability but also cultivates an understanding of historical context and cultural significance. We encourage experimentation and creative risk-taking in a supportive environment, ensuring that every child can explore new ideas and build personal confidence and independence through the exciting medium of art.
In the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), creativity blossoms through continuous daily access to a rich variety of art and design materials. This stimulating, open-ended approach encourages our youngest pupils to exercise their initiative and develop crucial fine motor skills through hands-on exploration. By offering a wealth of resources tied loosely to our current topics, we never limit their potential—every day is an exciting opportunity for spontaneous discovery, and we are constantly delighted by the unique and imaginative creations they bring to life.
