Science: Igniting Curiosity & Discovering Our World
At Mappleborough Green, we don't just "learn" Science—we do Science! We believe that every child is born a scientist, fueled by a natural curiosity to understand how the world works. Our mission is to take that spark of wonder and turn it into a lifelong passion for discovery.
Why Science is a Priority Here
We want our pupils to look at a rainbow, a circuit, or a growing seed and ask: "How?" and "Why?" Our curriculum is designed to be loud, messy, and thought-provoking. Through the core disciplines of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, we empower our children to:
- Investigate: Move beyond the textbook to test theories and get hands-on.
- Question: Develop the grit to solve problems and the confidence to challenge ideas.
- Understand: Grasp the vital role science plays in our lives today and its power to shape our future.
Our Specialist Partnerships
We are proud to be an Ogden Trust partner school. This prestigious link allows us to put Physics at the heart of our learning. Through this partnership, we access:
- Expert teacher training and high-quality resources.
- Exciting "Phizzi" challenges and experiments.
- Collaborative events that show our children that Science is a path to incredible careers.
Celebrating Science Week
Science Week is a highlight of our school year! It is a time when the whole school transforms into a giant laboratory. From visiting experts and "wow" workshops to whole-school investigations, we celebrate the magic of discovery and show our children that in Science, the possibilities are endless.
The Mappleborough Scientist
When you walk into our classrooms during a Science lesson, you won't just see children reading; you will see them:
- Observing changes over time.
- Pattern seeking in nature.
- Identifying and Classifying the world around them.
- Fair Testing to find the truth.
