UNDER THE CANOPY

This term, Class 3’s topic will see the children embark on an exploration of rainforests.  They will learn about the different layers of the rainforest, as well as investigating which animals and plants make their home there. Their learning will then go on to discover the people who live in rainforest regions and understand what daily life is like within rainforest environment, before then looking at why rainforests are disappearing and what we can do to help protect these important environments for future generations.

Information relating to curriculum content for Class 3 is outlined in the Class 3 Long Term Plan.

HOME LEARNING

Homework will continue to be set on a Friday to be returned or completed online for the following Friday

Homework each week will consist of:

Times Tables practise on Times Tables Rock Stars –

  •  Year 3 – 10 minutes per week

  •  Year 4 – 15 minutes per week

  • Maths task – paper-based activities to be completed each week

  • Spelling – 10 games completed on Spelling Shed

  • Reading – a minimum of 3 times per week

Reading

In Key Stage 2, children continue to develop their reading skills, as well as explore an increasingly broad range of texts with growing complexity.  As a child’s fluency in reading increases, it is important for them to still read with an adult, as this will aid their intonation, as well as providing opportunities to ask questions about the text to help develop their understanding of what they have read.

To support their reading, children in Class 3 undertake a STAR Reading Assessment every half term.  This assessment helps provide a book level guide, helping children to select books that are appropriate for their reading stage.  All books in school have a book level and books from home can be checked on www.arbookfind.co.uk

The Millionaires’ Club will also continue this term. Certificates will be awarded for children reaching a word count of 10,000, 25,000, 50,000, 75,000, 100,000, 150,000, 200,000, 250,000, 500,000 750,000 and 1 million words.

Times Tables

The children in Class 3 will use Times Table Rock Stars to support the learning of times tables. The level is set based on their competence and the system’s algorithm will introduce new times tables once the children are secure.

Thank you for your support in encouraging your child’s home learning.  If you would like to discuss any issues relating to your child’s learning in Class 3, please do not hesitate to contact the office to arrange a time to meet with Mrs Marshall.
