Exploring Big Questions, Together

At Mappleborough Green, RE is more than just learning about religions; it is an invitation for our children to wonder about the world and their place within it. We want our pupils to be thinkers, questioners, and bridge-builders.

Our Rationale: Why RE Matters

In an ever-changing world, we believe that understanding faith and "worldviews" is essential. Our curriculum doesn't just teach children what people believe—it teaches them how to listen, how to respect differences, and how to form their own unique perspectives.

By the time our children move on to their next adventure, we want them to have:

  • An Open Mind: The ability to engage in honest, respectful conversations about different faiths including Christianity, Sikhism, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, and Hinduism.
  • A Confident Voice: The courage to express their own values and beliefs while valuing the rights of others to do the same.
  • A Compassionate Heart: A deep understanding of the spiritual, moral, and social dimensions that connect us all as humans.

Our Curriculum: The "Three Lenses"

We follow the Coventry & Warwickshire Agreed Syllabus alongside Understanding Christianity. This modern approach encourages children to look at the world through three different "lenses":

  1. Theology (Thinking through Believing): Exploring the "big stories" and the core teachings of different faiths.
  2. Philosophy (Thinking through Thinking): Asking the big, "ultimate" questions. Why are we here? What is fair? What does it mean to be good?
  3. Human Science (Thinking through Living): Looking at how people actually live out their faith in the real world today.

A Journey of Discovery

While we are proud of our school’s Christian background and help our children develop a rich understanding of the Christian faith, we use this as a "bridge" to explore the diverse tapestry of global religions.

RE at Mappleborough Green is enjoyable, relevant, and active. Whether it’s through storytelling, visiting places of worship, or debating a philosophical puzzle, we ensure that RE is a space where every child feels their voice is heard.
