Pupil Premium

What is Pupil Premium?

The Pupil Premium is additional funding for publicly funded schools in England. Its aim is to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and to close the gap between eligible pupils and their peers.

“It is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium, allocated to schools per FSM pupil, is spent, since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility.” Source – DfE website

The number of pupils eligible for this type of funding at Mappleborough Green is small. We look at the needs of each eligible pupil to identify ways in which additional help and support can be provided either to support their academic education or to help their personal, social and emotional development.

What does Mappleborough Green use Pupil Premium for?

At Mappleborough Green we are adamant in our approach to ensuring that all children reach their potential regardless of background or financial situation. We use Pupil Premium funds, with contributions made from the main school budget to improve the attainment of pupils who are eligible.

In the past, this funding has been used to fund:

  • Outside agencies to work with pupils (Early Intervention Service, counselling, behaviour support)
  • After School Clubs
  • Additional TA support within the classroom and for interventions
  • Lunchtime Art and Craft club to offer emotional support to help improve their well being, self image and self esteem and to give time with an adult that is free to listen
