Wellbeing and Mental Health

Nurturing Mental and Emotional Wellbeing

At Mappleborough Green Primary School, our commitment to providing a comprehensive education includes a strong focus on the mental and emotional wellbeing of our entire community—pupils, staff, and families. We aim to remove the stigma around mental health and encourage open communication, because a problem is halved when it is shared.
We believe that wellbeing is about much more than just "being happy." We teach children that life includes a full range of healthy emotions, and that it is perfectly normal to feel sad or nervous. Our approach is guided by the Protective Behaviours Programme, which is based on two key themes:
  • We all have the right to feel safe all the time.
  • We can talk with someone about anything, even if it feels awful or small.
When You Need Us:
To ensure pupils feel supported, we have several processes in place to help them talk about their mental health or express concerns about others:
  • Talk to a Staff Member: Pupils can approach any member of staff they feel confident and comfortable with to share their concerns.
  • Zones of Regulation: Every morning, children check in and place themselves on a colour-coded chart to show how they are feeling. Teachers and teaching assistants monitor this and take appropriate action.
  • Online Reporting: For concerns about your child, another child, or even yourself, you can email our safeguarding team for confidential support.
  • Worry Boxes: (Coming soon!) Our School Council is implementing "I want to Talk" boxes, where pupils can post a note with any concerns. These boxes will be checked daily, and all information is followed up on by a staff member.
