“Seeing the looks on the children's faces when we got to the school and they realised we were there to help them and improve their surroundings, that look of pure love and appreciation was for me what made the trip all the more rewarding”. Millie
Courageous Advocacy
Part of our mission as a Christian school is to take part in ‘courageous advocacy’. Courageous advocacy is the act of speaking up, often on behalf of others, to address issues of injustice or inequality. It involves taking action to champion a cause and make a positive impact.
In the summer holidays, Millie, a past pupil of MGPS, traveled to Malindi, Kenya, with the small registered charity "Inspire Afrika". The school engaged in courageous advocacy by helping to support this charity through a multi-faceted approach. Efforts included raising awareness of the charity's mission, collecting donations of clothing and small toys for the students, and making financial contributions.
During her trip, Millie and her colleagues worked on the ground to update, maintain, and build new education, sanitation, and food preparation areas, while also providing crucial educational support. Donations from the school community helped to fund these vital building projects. Inspire Afrika is dedicated to making a positive impact in the local community through grassroots development, providing infrastructure improvements, education, and resources to empower the school, staff, and children to thrive. Working closely with local people to deliver community-driven initiatives that improve quality of life, the charity's core belief is reflected in its tagline, "Achieve Together," emphasizing that collective effort and unity are key to overcoming challenges and building a better future.
Thank you so much, Millie, for your incredible work in Kenya. Your dedication to supporting the children and families in the Malindi community is truly inspiring. We are also incredibly grateful for you coming into school to share your experiences and advocate for the children; your visit has genuinely helped raise awareness and inspire our school community.
