After years of endeavour and prayer, a special invocation ceremony was performed at the new BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha Hindu mandir on Pitmaston Road, Hall Green, Birmingham this weekend. The purpose-built new templeOur visit to the Hindu Mandir in Hall Green, Birmingham was an amazing experience, as we got to participate in an Aarti (a prayer ritual where you get blessings from the Gods). As well as that we had a session of meditation in front of the Murtis (decorative statues of the Gods). We also took part in helping to make a rangoli pattern out of tissue paper balls – it will look spectacular when it is finished and it will be enjoyed by many people. The next activity was watching a video about Hinduism which taught us some key words and facts, after that we were told the story of Diwali using some beautiful pictures made by teenagers from the Mandir. Overall, this was one of the best trips that we have been on and the Mandir was beautiful to look around.

Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Development

"SMSC requires schools to think about the kind of people we aspire to be, the kind of world we aspire to create, and the kind of education we aspire to provide". Ofsted

SMSC is  the 'invisible thread' that weaves through everything we do at school, helping to shape your child into a fantastic, well-rounded little person! It stands for Spiritual, Moral, Social, and Cultural development.

We are fostering those vital life skills: encouraging a sense of wonder (Spiritual), knowing right from wrong (Moral), learning how to be a good friend and team player (Social), and celebrating the wonderful mix of people and traditions that make up our world (Cultural).

It’s all about nurturing curious, kind, and confident children ready to take their place in the big, wide world!
